Motorcycle Accidents increase in Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania Motorcycle Accident Lawyers
According to an Erie Times-News article, fatal motorcycle accidents are on the rise in Erie County Pennsylvania. As of early September, there were nine fatal motorcycle crashes in Erie County. The record number of motorcycle deaths in the county was ten in 2008. Various factors are cited in this article as possible reasons for the increase in motorcycle fatalities including the repeal of Pennsylvania’s universal motorcycle helmet law in 2003 and the increased number of Pennsylvania motorcyclists.
This appears to be a statewide trend in Pennsylvania. Based upon statistics from PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycle deaths have increased across the state of Pennsylvania in the past several years. In 2009, there were 204 motorcycle fatalities in Pennsylvania as compared to 156 in 2003.
