Dean McDermott, Chris Calaprice Celebrate 42,000 Mile Awareness Ride

Dean McDermott Joins 2 Time Cancer Survivor Chris Calaprice To Celebrate 42000 Mile Awareness RideIt’s hard to think of about the millions of people who are stricken each year with cancer, and it is equally impossible to imagine someone beating the odds not once but twice, and when I met Chris Calaprice at this years Sturgis Motorcycle Rally I was blown away with his positive outlook, and determination to raise awareness and garner support for Pancreatic Cancer with his ride across the United States.

With a final ride into Los Angeles from Santa Barbara California to celebrate the conclusion of the 42,000 mile awareness ride, The Road 2 A Cure crew, friends and supports will be letting the good times roll with full blown biker style party at Senor Fred. Tori Spelling’s husband, Dean McDermott will be making the ride on his new custom Harley along with Chris, his wife Jennifer, supporters and anyone who wants to roll with them.Tori Spelling's husband, Dean McDermott will be making the ride along with Chris, his wife Jennifer, supporters and anyone who wants to roll with them.

Road 2 A Cure co-founders Jennifer and Chris Calaprice became involved in the fight against pancreatic cancer in October of 2003 when Chris was diagnosed. Road 2 A Cure, a nonprofit organization, was their answer to making their own fight have a global impact in the war against cancer. Road 2 A Cure is out doing what others wont – speaking their minds and actively engaging those affected.

Why is all of this so important? Because pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths, yet receives less than 2 percent of the National Cancer Institute’s annual budget.  “You know that old saying ‘knowledge is power?’ Well, knowing you have pancreatic cancer early and finding a specialist gives you the power to act quickly so you don’t die, quite frankly. But the current level of funding and federal support does not allow most this advantage.”

Why 42,000 miles? “I am riding one mile for each person in the U.S. who will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year alone,” says Chris.
