A Motorcycle Accident in Texas Claims 2 Victims, Accused Drunk Driver Released on Bond
As reported in a recent WFAA story, two bereaved families in North Texas are wondering about their futures after a fatal motorcycle accident caused by a drunk driver in Plano, TX on March 25th, 2011. The car-motorcycle accident, which occurred near Coit Road and the George Bush Turnpike, killed a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman as the couple rode their motorcycle into the path of the 37-year-old impaired motorist who ran a red light.
Sadly the young lovers were declared dead at the scene, and the accused drunk was released from custody soon after posting bond. Texas motorcycle attorneys have often warned of the ease with which drunk drivers may be released from custody, sometimes to commit other driving offenses resulting in serious injuries or wrongful death.
Understandably, the families of the Texas motorcycle-riding couple are outraged at the suspect’s release. In addition, the members of these working-class families were also quoted as being worried about their financial future, since both of these hardworking young people had helped substantially in supporting their families. These families now face financial hardships and an uncertain future.
Police and lower-level traffic judges and magistrates here in Texas cannot always plug the leaks which occasionally allow negligent drivers to slip through the cracks of justice, perhaps to commit further crimes. Without the help of an experienced Texas motorcycle attorney, downed bikers and their families may be left without the means to pay for the costly therapy and other expenses following a serious motorcycle accident.
