When did you start riding? As a passenger in my younger age in Switzerland, I got my license 2007.

What got you involved in motorcycles and how did you start? When my (ex)husband finally got a motorcycle 2006 I really wanted to ride my own so I started with a scooter. That didn’t take many weeks to get bored, so then I wanted a motorcycle. I signed up for the 3 day course with my friend.  I got my first motorcycle a Yamaha custom 650, in June 2007.

How has riding motorcycles impacted your life? I absolutely love it and my licenses plate says it all, LVIT (love it /live it). I have had my current bike now 13 month and have already done over 9000 miles and we live in New Hampshire were the winter is long. We’ve have had the best spring and summer so far and my boyfriend knows so many great roads around New England, he should be a guide.

What has been your biggest challenge with riding? Mt Washington. Going up was no problem, but then going down I got real nervous. It’s very steep, but once I started riding down I realized it wasn’t that hard at all.

What do you like most about your model motorcycle? The color, it’s purple, lol. The whole thing from handling, radio and I love doing long trips, so bags are a must.

What modifications have you made? Not much, another girl had owned it for couple months before me and she had done what I wanted. She lowered it 2 inches, put 2 spotlights, and heated handle bars (we live in New Hampshire).  All I added was a removable backrest for a passenger and a removable luggage rack.

When you’re not riding motorcycles what are you other interest?  Horses, I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center love it.

What advice do you have for other women riders? New riders be sure you can put your feet flat on the ground.  In my earlier experience I would have said “don’t get too small of a bike”, but I have learned that it depends where you ride and for what reasons. I love my heavier bike; it makes me feel safer on the highway. But if you live in the city, yes, a light bike is easier to maneuver. My twin sister lives in Sweden and she has a much lighter and smaller bike and I tried to convince her of getting a bigger bike, but that’s not right for her.  So get what you like and love it.

What is your weather like year round? 4 Seasons

How is riding therapy for you?  I love animals and grew up with them, now I have 2 dogs and a cat and I miss horseback riding. It may seem strange but riding a motorcycle gives me a little bit of the same feeling of freedom.

At 5’3” I love that Cathy rolls on her Street Glide. It’s such an awesome bike and gals like her encourage others who may feel intimidated. Love that!
