Daytona Bike Week Has Come And Gone
This year’s Daytona Bike Week was a blast. I arrived on Tuesday, March 2 to my good friend Ms. New York Rider herself, Carmella Brown, anxiously awaiting my arrival. My first experience of Main Street Daytona happened that evening. I had been traveling all day and needed food desperately so Carmella took me to Main Street to grab some food and watch a band. Little did anyone tell me, it was freezing. Even my hot chicken strip boat couldn’t keep my hands warm. The band was pretty good, but traveling for 7 hours and freezing my fingers off took it out of me so I called it an early night and rested up for work.
Wednesday was great and packed! Both booths, 777 Main Street and Destination Daytona, had people in and out all day signing up for BAM. BAM, Breakdown and Legal Assistance for Motorcyclists, is a free roadside and legal assistance program offered by biker lawyer Russ Brown, biker attorney Chuck Koro, and motorcycle attorney Jim Romag. It is a network of riders helping riders 24/7 nationwide. I personally got to speak to several people from all over, and sign them up for BAM. It is a great feeling knowing that we are helping people out for no cost but offering whatever help you can in return.
After working all day I stopped by the International Motorcycle Show to see how Carmella was doing. She was about as tired as I was so we headed to dinner. We picked up out good friends Dick Briggs, inventor of Rocker Boards, Brian, owner of Satan Cycles, and Laura from their booth at JP Cycles and headed out. After dinner they decided to take me to a nice little establishment called the Last Resort. After arriving, they proceeded to tell me that the movie Monster, starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci, was base on a woman Aileen Wuornos who was arrest at that very spot. It was her hangout. What a landmark!
The rest of the week and weekend went great, minus the fact that I am apparently allergic to Daytona Beach, Florida and had a runny nose, dry eyes, and a cough most of the time and it was freezing cold! Saturday wrapped up my work in Daytona so we headed down to Main Street to say goodbye to the great city and listen to an ACDC cover band. As we were walking down the sidewalk, over the loud speaker we hear a woman preaching to everyone. She called everyone a sinner and begged us all to repent now. All of the sudden about 10 motorcycles started up their engines as loud as possible and drowned her out. I wonder how many people she got to repent.
Daytona Bike Week is always a great way to start the year off right. I got to catch up with my east coast friends, and it was great to have the entire BAM team together at one event. It felt a little like a high school reunion! It gets me pumped for the upcoming year. Bike night season is quickly approaching. Let me know of any bike nights you know of for this year!
