PINELLAS PARK, Fla- Traffic was closed on southbound US Hwy 19 after an unidentified person was killed Sunday night. Authorities reported that around 8:37 PM a motorcycle ran into the back of a car and was ejected from his bike. the deadly accident involved 2 motorcycles and a car, however police on the scene were unsure how the second motorcycle became involved and the number of other people injuries although 3 ambulances were said to be on the scene.

Society is well aware of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, however, we don’t hear nearly enough about the dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs. According to the NHTSA’s 2007 National Roadside Survey, over 16% of nighttime, weekend drivers tested positive to driving while under the influence of illegal, over-the-counter or prescription drugs. Illegal drugs, as well as prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs, can cause seriously impair a driver’s reaction time, leading to serious and often deadly Los Angeles motorcycle accidents.

In 2004 the NHTSA reported that each day 16,934 accidents were reported to the police each day, of that number it is estimated that close to 15% involved motorcycles which means that 2,388 motorcyclists are injured each and every day on U.S. highways. When we consider what happens when an automobile strikes a motorcycle, I am sure you can imagine the outcome. Most motorcycle accidents that involve cars and trucks usually result in serious injury and oftentimes death to the motorcyclist and their passengers.
