Driving at night can be dangerous for any California motorcyclist – young, old, experienced, or not. When driving at night you have limited vision and, therefore, shortened time to respond to anything that may happen around you. Combine that with the myriad of other reasons that impair motorists on California roads and you have a recipe for disaster. Fatigue, drugs, alcohol, cellphones, and other distractions can all increase the risk of sustaining a serious California motorcycle accident. No matter what type of motorcycle you ride, a heightened awareness of your surroundings and being prepared to drive defensively can make all the difference.
On October 23, Christopher McGinnis of Los Angeles, California was a victim to a late night motorcycling accident. While driving his motorcycle in the southbound carpool lane of Seal Beach Boulevard, McGinnis veered to the left and struck the center divider that then caused him to fall of his motorcycle. The Orange County Fire Authority paramedics treated him on the scene around 4:30 and by 4:55 a.m., he was pronounced dead.  Authorities cited water on the roadway and nighttime driving as some of the reasons the fatal Los Angeles motorcycle accident occurred.

San Francisco Bay Area motorcyclists now have another reason to ride their motorcycles. June 21, 2010 is the annual “Ride to Work Day”. Ride to work day is sponsored by a non-profit organization that supports the use of motorcycles and scooters for transportation throughout the world.
