The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally offers a multitude of things to see and do in the Rapid City, South Dakota area.  The town of Deadwood is one of my favorite destinations and there are beautiful rides that take you to some historic locations.

Where is Sturgis? Sturgis is in South Dakota close to Rapid City, SD and near Wyoming and Montana.

The Devil’s Tower National Monument:

The Devil’s Tower is a breath-taking monument just across the state line in Wyoming. The massive rock formation was a magical place for the Lakota and Cheyenne Indians in the northern plains and is a wonder to behold. Nature enthusiasts and rock climbers are sure to love it.

 Mount Rushmore National Memorial:

This awe-inspiring sculpture features the faces of four famous American presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. With 60-foot-high faces, this sculpture towers 500 feet over visitors. A variety of interpretive programs, walks, and tours offer visitors to Mount Rushmore a unique and educational experience.

Crazy Horse Memorial:

Although the project was first started in 1948 at the request of Chief Henry Standing Bear, the memorial is still not completed and is the world’s largest sculpture-in-progress. The Crazy Horse Memorial was started in honor of the great war leader of the Oglala Lakota Tribe in the Black Hills. His bravery is greatly admired and he is still considered one of the Sioux’s greatest leaders.

Rushmore Cave:

At Rushmore Cave you can experience an entirely different kind of fun. Soar through the sky on the Soaring Eagle Zipline or take a cool tour of the hidden world beneath our feet. For the truly adventurous, an xpedition adventure tour gives visitors a chance to go spelunking. This adventure is not for the faint of heart and requires belly crawling through some pretty tight spaces in the caves.

While on the road to Sturgis please be sure to drive with extra caution there are many accidents and fatalities that occur in other states as motorcyclists attempt to make the long trek to the rally.
