Daytona Bike Week Kicks Off the 2014 Rally Season
With February winding down, all signs are pointing to spring and with spring comes the kick off to rally season; Daytona Bike Week. Here’s a snapshot at what the big manufacturers are doing at throughout Bike Week at Daytona come March 8th to 15th.
Indian Motorcycles made headlines recently announcing that it would be bringing a lineup to Daytona dedicated to celebrating the launch of their 2014 models. Throughout the week, they will be offering anyone interested a chance to test ride a 2014 Indian Chieftain, Chief Classic and Chief Vintage. Try one or try ‘em all! Riders who are interested can check it out at Gate 70 of Daytona Motorspeedway.
In what can be described as a tribute to the history of the brand, Indian will have a “museum” of sorts in the Midway area of the famed Daytona International Speedway. On display will be Indian’s Spirit of Munro streamliner and a number of other vintage rides. In what has been described as a “naked” display bike, the guts of an Indian’s engineering will be featured allowing patrons to see how one of these machines is put together. Getting all the Indian action started will be a Kick-start Party on March 8th at the Full Moon Saloon on Main Street.
Not to be outdone, Harley-Davidson will make its presence felt throughout the course of the week. Shaking things up a little from prior years, Harley has moved away from their traditional spread out approach which saw their booths spattered in numerous locations from Beach Street to the Speedway. This year they are consolidating their presence at the Speedway itself allowing visitors the chance to see all they have to offer without going all over town. Throw in free parking throughout the week, Harley is bringing the heat with a full array of shops and displays that feature everything from 2014 model year bikes to clothing and accessories and musical entertainment.
Harley will also be offering test rides to those who are interested, and this year’s test models are the Project RUSHMORE bikes that have drawn some major attention since their debut a couple months back. Harley is putting on some biker rides throughout the week, with the 8th annual Women’s MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Ride taking place March 11th at 7am and the Harley-Davidson Ride-In Custom bike show a day later. Registration for the Custom show will be from 8am to 11am on the 12th. A $15 dollar donation to MDA will be required to in order to complete registration.
Kawasaki gets in on the action by putting on a show they have dubbed “Bike Nite in the Daylite” on March 14th from noon till 3pm at Daytona International Motorspeedway. Registration takes place at 11 of that day, and eligible bikers will be able to show off their rides in an effort to win first place in any of the following four categories: best sportbike, best cruiser, best vintage bike and best unique bike. Winners of the last contest will win a feature on www.motorcycle.com, and a 16gigabyte iPad mini from Kawasaki.
If that’s not enough to keep one busy, Honda will be throwing a bangin’ kickoff party on Friday, March 7th, from 6-8pm at their new location at the speedway, which is just east of turn 4. They will have a number of celebrity racers on hand to answer questions and sign autographs; with names like: Justin Barcia, Trey Canard, Eli Tomac, Wil Hahn, Blake Wharton, Matt Bisceglia, Justin Bogle, Malcolm Stewart, Johnny Campbell, and Chris Bach. These riders will also be donating signed jerseys and riding apparel in support of Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Ride for Kids. Attendees are asked to make a $5 donation to help support the cause.
This is just a small slice of the pie, as there will be many other things to check out throughout the course of bike week. Check back soon to see a list of what will be happening like rides, parades, pub crawls and more!
And don’t forget to stop by the Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys and BAM, Free Breakdown and Legal Assistance for Motorcyclists booths.
